Ab sofort bietet das Consortium Luxembourg allen Inhabern einer Leserkarte der Nationalbibliothek Luxembourg, der Universität Luxembourg oder einem der Centres de Recherche LIH oder LIST Zugriff auf die musikalische Datenbank MGG Online.
Der Titel ist Programm: »Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart« enzyklopädisch darzustellen – Zeiten und Kontinente umfassend, wissenschaftlich erschöpfend, verantwortet von international anerkannten Experten.
MGG Online ist die neue digitale Enzyklopädie für Musikwissenschaftler und Musikinteressierte weltweit. Die Datenbank beinhaltet den vollständigen Inhalt der zweiten Ausgabe der MGG, dem maßgebenden Referenzwerk für die Musikwissenschaft seit 1949, sowie kontinuierlich aktualisierte und neu verfasste Artikel.
MGG Online wurde von den Verlagen Bärenreiter und J. B. Metzler in Zusammenarbeit mit Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM) entwickelt.
Die ganze Bandbreite der Musik
MGG Online umfasst den Inhalt der zweiten Ausgabe der MGG mit über 19.000 Artikeln:
- Der Personenteil umfasst über 18.000 Artikel zu Personen aller Kontinente, zu Komponisten und Komponistinnen, zu Interpreten, Sängern und Musiktheoretikern. Zahlreiche Artikel aus dem Bereich Jazz und Pop, zu Dichtern, Ensembles, Verlagen, Instrumentenbauern, Librettisten, Philosophen, Musikwissenschaftlern und Regisseuren runden das Bild ab.
- Der Sachteil umfasst circa 1.300 Artikel zu Epochen, Ländern, Regionen und Städten, Quellen, Gattungen und Instrumenten. Darüber hinaus enthält er Artikel zu Institutionen (u. a. Bibliotheken), zur Musikikonographie und zu Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Musik und anderen Künsten.
Einzigartig sind vor diesem Hintergrund die Artikel, die die Beziehung zwischen Musik und Geschichte, Kunst, Literatur, Philosophie, Recht, den Naturwissenschaften u. a. diskutieren.

Die Verlage Bärenreiter und J. B. Metzler sind für den Inhalt der MGG Online verantwortlich; sie garantieren, dass die MGG weiterhin umfassend und maßgebend bleiben wird. Hunderte von Artikeln wurden bereits revidiert, aktualisiert oder von international anerkannten Wissenschaftlern neu verfasst.

Consortium Luxembourg is now offering access to the musical database MGG Online for all users with a valid library subscription of National Library, University, LIST or LIH.
The title is its mission: To represent Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart in an encyclopedic undertaking—an exhaustive scholarly project straddling ages and continents, carried by internationally renowned experts.
MGG Online is the new digital encyclopedia for music researchers worldwide. It features the second edition of Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart , the authoritative reference work that has supported music scholarship since 1949, now with regularly updated and newly written articles.
MGG Online has been developed by Bärenreiter and J. B. Metzler in partnership with Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM).
Extensive Content Covering All Music Disciplines
MGG Online features the 19,000 articles of the second edition of Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart :
- More than 18,000 biographical articles cover composers, singers and instrumentalists, and theorists. Many of these articles are about non-Western composers, performers, and writers, and on figures from jazz and popular music. There are also articles covering philosophers and literary figures, not to mention instrument makers, publishers, musicologists, writers, librettists, and visual artists.
- About 1,300 subject articles cover music aesthetics and theory, epochs and genres, church music and pop music, instruments and manuscripts as well as cities and countries. In addition to expected topics, there are comprehensive articles on institutions (including music libraries), music iconographical subjects, and relationships to the other arts (for example color-tone relationships).
